Possible Solution to those with no Boost list!
  • We are experiencing an issue on some PC's not able to download a boost list.

We know that GBoost works on most machines that it is run on so we are suspecting a few areas where it could be failing.

If anybody out there can work out a solution to this then please post up findings or solution here for other users to see.

Our orders are busy on other projects at the moment but we will be coming back to GBoost in the near future.

Here are the things that can be looked at.

    1. Change ISP. (This can be tried by people who have a laptop who can borrow a friends Wifi on their ISP to see if it works this way.

    2. Create a new user account. (Windows can sometimes get a little strange on a particular user account, creating a new account may resolve the thing that is stopping GBoost from connecting to our server)

    3. Admin rights and firewalls. (Ensure that all firewalls are disabled and give GBoost full admin rights by right clicking properties of the GBoost icon then ticking Run as Admin)

    4. .NET issues. To ensure that .NET is not causing the issue. You can try uninstalling .NET completely from your system, then downloading the latest version from Microsofts website.

Our apologies to these users who are experiencing issues. IT will be great if the community can work this out and help us out whilst we get our act together and finish off GBoost 2.0 which will be completely rewritten from the ground up. (Code is currently 80% done)

  • I got mine working today, I did the last following instruction by uninstalling the .Net and reinstalling as followed. I also updates all of my windows updates which I in fact don't think was the solution to the fix. However I have got my Gboost working, so far it's working extremely well for my performance and I give it a 5/5. Regards.
  • So do you think that it was the .net solution 4 that fixed it?

Thanks for posting up this information!!
  • It could have been one of the solutions to get Gboost working. Though I my self did a few maintenance checks on my computer. The things I did to maybe give others a hand in getting Gboost to work.

    1. Uninstall Gboost completely by right clicking icon going into open file location.
    2. Next control panel, then programs, uninstall, find .net framework, uninstall the two, should be framwork client and other saying maintenance.
    3. Check if you have any windows updates that need installing onto your OS.
    4. you could possibly try a neat program called ccleaner it deletes junk files and helps free up cpu.
5.Reinstall Gboost without having it open up after download, ''Just click no'' right click then run as administrator. I don't know if these instructions will help everyone, but it helped me. Good luck getting your Gboost working. :)
  • i've done exactly what paradox did but still can't...
    i'm in despair~
  • How frequently is Gboost updated? Could possibly need re modeling or further updates. Mine is working great right now have had no problems with it besides last few days getting the No boost error, Now I don't have that to worry about and is working effectively. Also have you considered having Donations as an option or even spreading the site with further forum topics to draw more people in?
  • Did what paradoxlol did exactly but got something slightly different.
When I launched the Gboost installer (as administrator) it finally downloaded some update files ... but stopped working.

  • I got it working on my PC after doing a little diggin in the GBoost.exe.config file, located inside the C:\Program Files (x86)\Gboost directory. Looking through GBoost.exe.config using notepad I noticed a URL on line 11. The line in the config is exactly as follows-

    uri="http://gboost.gzero.com/gzeroclient/gboost.application"

I dunno what "uri" could mean other than a typo for the url that follows it........ Im not exactly a computer genius if you get my drift. I went ahead and copied and pasted "http://gboost.gzero.com/gzeroclient/gboost.application" (without quotes) into my web browser and an option to download a small file called "gboost.application" appeared. I went ahead and downloaded it and then dropped the file into the GBoost directory. After doing this I ran GBoost.exe, configured the programs settings from the panel and hit the mighty boost button.

Result- Works just fine now. I have been searching for an answer to this problem for a very long time with no responses from anyone on the matter. I understand that this might not be a "Perfect" fix because GBoost doesnt get to call home and report on your applications, but it still gave better results than Game Booster. Besides that GBoost says that it only needs to report in one time to get configured and if this is to get information on how to address the current processes on your machine, what happens when a user installs new software? Is that software and all resulting processes then exempt from GBoosts optimization? I'll be straight up here, I cant see why theres even the smallest actual need to have the software contacting home upon installation. Windows XP through Windows 8 are cookie cutter enough that with a small bit of configuring the application it could easily be prepared to optimize itself to correctly address the 90% of running processes that EVERY windows user has on their machine and leave it up to the user to determine what is done with the remaining processes created by non Windows software, (e.g. Nvidia update service, ect) just like the popular and poorly translated "Game Booster" software does. A simple list of processes and services that are pre flagged by GBoost to be checked or unchecked by the user would be all that is necessary to do the same job its doing now. To avoid user confusion in regards to weather or not they want to disable a service/process (Not everyone knows what the service/processes actually do on a windows OS) GBoost could simply display a quick text description of the item in question and how it relates to your windows session, much like "Services.msc" does. For those of you who arent familiar, services.msc is a list of all startup and run options for all native windows os services. You can set services to launch at startup, after a short delay, manually only, or automatically on demand. If you arent familiar, go ahead and type "Services.msc" into your search box at the bottom of your start menu and then click the link windows gives you. Its pretty easy for an average user to sift through with a little help from google search to answer and questions they might still have. I hope this helped some of you to be able to use this killer application. Weather you have a high end PC or a tired old rig, there is plenty of benefit to be gained by utilizing GBoost. I would suggest it to anyone who would like to add a little pep to their machine in non game related tasks as well. My running processes went from 70+ down to 54 after a little configuration and the truth is that 99% of the time I will never be using the processes that GBoost disabled so its not as if my machine has a usability handicap when boosted. I'll just leave it boosted all the time and restore services on the rare occasion that I need to sync a mobile phone, print a document up or something along those lines.

Big thanks to the GZero staff for the wonderful application and for taking the time to create a designated place for users to seek out a solution to this issue. If anyone has a better fix to get it up and running, please let me know. Keep up the good work GZero. I cant wait to see what changes you implement in the next version. Dont do too much redesign on it please. You have a seriously good thing going with your current version!
  • I don't know if it will work for everyone, but all I did was hit reset to defaults under the help tab. It immediately posted my boost list and is working fine. Good luck and I hope it works for ya'll.
  • In found a permanent solution for this issue. After hours reinstalling Gboost, reading posts, .Net issues and image Windows 7 (Acronis), I found a solution: Uninstall BitDefender. Now, Gboost works very well.
Note: I tried permissions in the firewall exclusion list, disabled firewall & AV completely and a series of configs. Nothing worked. Now I'm with Kaspersky. =)

Edit: After uninstalling BitDefender, I uninstalled Gboost and deleted these folders:
    C:\Users\\AppData\Local\GZero
    C:\Users\\AppData\Local\LiveGBoost
    C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\GZero
    Used ccleaner and installed Gboost.

Note 2: I noticed issues when Lan Optimizers (Traffic Shaping) are enable in system (like X-Fast / cFost by Asrock or Lan Optimizer by Gigabyte). Flush cache / Calibrate Line or uninstall them. ;-)
  • Which .Net framework version should I uninstall. I have programs requiring from the 2.0 up to 4.5 on my machine and don't want to uninstall them all.

nvm, that was on an older machine I don't have Gboost installed. My laptop has 4.0.
  • My previous post made me look like a noob, that happens when you write before checking what's installed. My machines both had .Net Framework 4.0 installed. The desktop had only the client profile, in which the gboost worked without a problem. The laptop had the full 4.0 framework (client and extended). I removed it, then reinstalled the client profile only, but sadly had the same issue. Gboost installed fine, made an update of files (bootstrap or whatever called), and downloaded 2-3MB, but when tried to update/download the gboost list, it gave the error.

In one of the error reports I suggested that maybe the problem is network related. Had 2 machines with nearly same configuration and programs, and the laptop which uses wireless most of the time is the one that failed to get the list. There was also someone else with the same issue (desktop works, laptop doesn't).
